The history of Instagram: How did Instagram originate and become the popular social media platform today?

Instagram was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Originally known as “Burbn,” the app included features like check-ins, scheduling, and photo sharing. However, Burbn failed to gain popularity in a few years due to similar features of other apps.

In 2012, Systrom and Krieger relaunched the app as Instagram and focused solely on photo sharing. Instagram stood out with a simple user interface that allows users to edit their photos and add filters. Users were also allowed to like and comment on their photos to interact with their followers.

In 2012, Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion, and Instagram became a subsidiary of Facebook. Facebook’s acquisition helped Instagram grow even faster and reach a wider user base. This acquisition helped increase Instagram’s user base rapidly and the platform became a social media giant.

Instagram allows users to share their photos and videos, interact with their followers, like and comment on other users’ posts. It also offers different features like Instagram Stories, Live Streams, Reels and IGTV. Instagram is a popular platform where many brands and celebrities are used as a social media platform today.

Instagram has added even more features over time. For example, the video sharing feature was added in 2013, while the stories feature was launched in 2016. Instagram has more than 1 billion active users today and is considered one of the most popular social media platforms worldwide.
